To install this theme you must have a working version of WordPress already installed. For information regarding the installation of the WordPress platform, please see the WordPress Codex :
Here’s how to set up a blog if you’re just starting out:
The following files are what you should have received from your purchase:
• Theme Files (Zipped)
Once there, upload your theme. Activate it.
Theme Install Troubleshooting
Here are a few things to check:
-Make sure you are uploading the .zip files (sometimes computers will automatically unzip when you download them- if so, re-zip them)- I think this is your problem!!
-Make sure you upload the genesis.zip file FIRST and activate it
-Next, upload the theme.zip file (this will be labeled deco.zip, marble.zip, etc. depending on which theme you bought) and activate it (your theme will not work unless they are uploaded in this order)
-If you have uploaded the theme a couple of times and it has renamed it to theme-1.zip, it also will not work (same goes for Genesis). You need to delete the multiple copies and upload the original one- the theme.zip one. This goes for Genesis too.
-If you already have another theme installed that is the same name as the Bloom Blog Shop theme (e.g.: Lovely, Deco, or Marble), you’ll have to delete it before uploading this new theme or else it won’t work.
-Make sure you are NOT using wordpress.com. Custom themes don’t work with wordpress.com sites- only self-hosted wordpress.org sites as stated in all my theme descriptions 🙂
How do I re-zip the theme files if my computer unzipped them automatically?
On a mac, right click and select the compress option. On any other computer, please google how to.View FAQ
Customize your Theme:
Editing the Header
Add Your Own Logo
To add your own logo to the design, navigate to Appearance > Header > Header Image. Click on the choose image or choose file button to upload your logo. The size for your logo is listed in the text above the button that says “Add New Image.”
(Please note, the below example is an example take from our Classic theme- the size listed for your particular theme will vary!)
Note, you MUST uncheck the checkbox that says “Display Header Text” under the Site Title & Tagline section… or it will all be a jumbled mess 🙂
Adding a Favicon
To add your own favicon, go to Appearance > Header > Site Identity. At the bottom, there is an option to upload your “site icon.” This is your favicon which is your site icon and app icon. Upload a square image at least the size of 512 x 512px.
Setting up the Menu for Darling
Go to Appearance > Menus and click “create new menu” (the blue link).
Name it and click “create menu.” You’ll need to do this twice since the menu is split i.e. there is a menu to the left and right of your logo. For the demo, I labeled mine right and left menu.
Now add pages to your menu and then check the box for either “right menu” or “left menu” to assign this menu to be to the left or right of your logo. And then save your menu. That’s it!
If you want to switch menus so you can edit them, simply click the drop down at the top of the menu page and select the menu you’d like to edit.
To add a page to your menu, select the page from the left side and then click “Add to Menu”.
To create a sub menu, select the page/category you’d like to add and then drag it to an indented position under whatever menu item you’d like. It’ll “snap” into place and look like this:
To create a Categories drop-down, follow the steps above but first add a custom link called “Categories” to your menu. This is located on the left hand side of your menu page. For the link, add a # in that area. Click “Add to Menu.”
Now, drag your categories to an indented position below the Categories link like this:
To customize your colors, go to Appearance > Customize > Colors. Simply choose the colors of your choice by entering the hex code or selecting the color you’d like on the color wheel.View FAQ

Darling Theme- How to Set Up the Widget Areas
Go to Appearance > Widgets. Add the Genesis Featured Posts widget to the “Front Page Featured” widget area. This is for the featured posts area below your menu.
Here are the settings I used:
For the sidebar widget area, here are the plugins I used (the following FAQs have instructions for specific plugins):
For the footer widget area, here are the plugins I added to it:
The social media links in the footer will automatically be spaced out like the demo.
The “After Footer” widget is where you’ll place your Instagram feed. You can use SnapWidget (see this FAQ) or download this plugin and it will be styled like the demo:
And here are the settings to use:
For the “Between the Posts” widget areas, you can add any plugin of your choice. Here’s what I used:
I used SnapWidget for the Instagram feed (use this FAQ) and just text widget with affiliate code for the “currently loving” section (see this FAQ).
Adding Share Icons to the Bottom of Your Posts
Adding An About Picture To The Sidebar
To add an about picture to the sidebar, you have to first upload the image to “Media”. Navigate to Media > Add New and select your image from your computer. Once it’s added, click on the edit button next to the image and a lightbox will open. On the right, copy the image URL.
Next, navigate to Appearance > Widgets, and add a “Text” widget to the Primary Sidebar. In the Text widget, place the following text:
Replace YourImageUrl with the URL that you already copied. The final code should look something like this:
Click Save and you’re done!
*This is the same process for adding other pictures or advertisements to the sidebar.
Why isn’t my sidebar picture showing up?
If you have followed the instructions in my theme documentation on how to add a picture to your sidebar and it still isn’t working, delete the quotation marks and then type them in yourself. Sometimes, WordPress doesn’t want to ready copied and pasted quotation marks.View FAQ
Adding Social Media Links to the Sidebar
Adding social media links is simple with a plugin. We recommend Simple Social Icons, which can be downloaded through WordPress. Navigate to Plugins > Add New, search for “Simple Social Icons” and click “Install Now”. Then, click “Activate.”
A widget will be added to Appearance > Widgets. Once there, drag the Simple Social Icons to the Primary Sidebar Area, and configure your settings as you see fit!
Adding an Instagram Slider to Your Sidebar
Install the “Instagram Slider Widget” plug-in and activate it. Go to Appearance > Widgets and drag the Instagram Slider Widget button to the Primary Sidebar. Configure the settings as you please!
Adding Other Widgets To The Sidebar & How to Delete Widgets
To add other widgets to the sidebar, like Search, Categories, or Archives, navigate to Appearance > Widgets. On the left, there is a list of available widgets that come with WordPress. To add them to the sidebar, simply drag them from the list, to the Primary Sidebar Area.
To delete a widget, go to Appearance > Widgets, open up the widget you’d like to delete, and then at the bottom left of the popup box, there will be an option to remove that widget.
Instagram in Footer
To set up your footer widget, drag the simple social icons to this widget as well- configure as you please.
To display your Instagram feed in the footer, drag a text widget to the Footer widget. Paste your SnapWidget* code and click save.
*Go to snapwidget.com to create your footer widget. It’s super easy! Select how many images you’d like to show and make sure you select the responsive option.
NOTE: All settings in your Simple Social Icons widget must match in order to see any changes you make to the settings (i.e. if you want to make the icons smaller, you have to change the settings in the sidebar widget AND in your social media menu widget area AND in your footer widget area)View FAQ
Setting up the Category Page
First, create a page and title it whatver you’d like your category page to be called. Then, for the page template, select the index page template. Click update.
In order to add content to this page, go to Appearance > Widgets. Find the Index Page widget area. This is where you add the content to your category page.
Add the plugin Genesis Featured Posts. You will need to add multiple of this plugin to display however many categories you’d like. So, to display two categories like I have on the demo, you will add two Genesis Featured Posts plugin.
You can choose the settings to match your preference, but here’s what I used on the demo:
A few settings to note if you’d like your theme to match the demo:
-the box to show the post title is checked
-check the box to display post info but then delete everything EXCEPT for the post date
-the box to show category archive link is checked and then I added custom link text

How do I add a “Shop My Post” page/widget?
Those are actually widgets from affiliate companies. You paste the code they give you in the sidebar and at the bottom of your posts! Most bloggers use ShopStyle or RewardStyle. The affiliate companies give you directions on how to do this.View FAQ
